Due to overwhelming popular demand, County Historian John Kuhl has agreed to do a second encore of his lecture "300 Fun Facts About Hunterdon County." We have entitled this "BRAVO! 300 Fun Facts" and it will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 16 at 2 pm at the Main Branch of the County Library on Route 12. If you've been shut out from the "Fun Facts" and "Encore! Fun Facts" grab tickets fast! They are available thru our website as well as at our headquarters, The Flemington Choir School, 3 Chorister Place in Flemington.

Another lovely meal will be served followed by a double feature lecture with Lebanon Borough Historian Joe Hauck and County Historian Stephanie Stevens about the region with a focus on the real history of Round Valley -- from the geology to the early settlers; the farmers to the politics.... and then there's the story of the reservoir and the backdoor deals made.... a tell all by County Historian Extraordinaire Stevens -- she reveals where all the bodies are buried... well not all -- at least 6 are still in the murky depths of the reservoir!
Please take note: this event will be on the second floor of this historic tavern and is NOT HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and hope that those of you unable to come to this event because of accessibility issue will join us for future events and more user friendly, tavern tours.

ENCORE! 300 Fun Facts About Hunterdon County and MORE News!!
Due to an overwhelming response for tickets for 300 Fun Facts About Hunterdon County, we are proudly offering an ENCORE lecture --- same title, same speaker, same place, same time -- just a different date! We're even throwing in the same special 300th gift for all attendees! After all, it's our birthday -- there has to be presents! And of course, it's free and there will be refreshments following.
Join Hunterdon County Historian John Kuhl as he delves into interesting, sometimes quirky, sometimes serious, but always fun to know, facts about Hunterdon County. This Encore Presentation is Tuesday, January 28th at 7 pm at the North Branch of the County Library in Clinton. You can find our link to tickets on our website www.hunterdon300th.org. Limited hard tickets are guaranteed to be available through next Saturday, January 18th at the Flemington Choir School, 3 Chorister Place, Flemington. Or call us at 908-788-2030 -- leave a message and we'll set tickets aside for you.
We also have a limited amount of tickets still available on a fabulous seminar on how to rehabilitate a historical house. You don't have to live in a Victorian gingerbread to get something out of this event. Even if you live in a not so historical house or one that is from the 1950s that has real plaster walls or a peg floor you will get some great tips. Historical Architect Michael Marguiles is joined by Historical Restorator and Contractor Michael Hathaway to lead us through the perceived difficulties in dealing with permits, regulations, old construction and more.
Speaking of encores and Michael Marguiles, the on-line tickets to the architecture lecture and house/grounds tour of the Vought House on February 8th with Michael are being snatched up so fast we are discussing adding an Encore of that as well sometime later this year. Stay tuned for details.
Finally, we have added a new book to our sales inventory: The First 300 Years of Hunterdon County is now on sale at the Flemington Choir School for $10; we will be adding other sales locations soon. The book, created by our friends at Hunterdon County Culture and Heritage for us, updates the two past editions, The First 275 Years of Hunterdon County and The First 250 Years of Hunterdon County. You don't have to own either of the older versions to enjoy this great volume.
We hope to see you at lots of great events, concerts, lectures and tours this year! We're off to a great start!!

February's Events: All Available & All Free!
February's Fabulous Tricentennial events are now live on our website www.hunterdon300th.org.
It's National Black History Month, the Birthday month of a famous North Hunterdon Revolutionary War Loyalist to the Crown and the birthdays of two of our favorite presidents! Although we have no specific event this month celebrating President Washington, with the importance of the Revolutionary War in Hunterdon County, you'll find many events regarding George Washington's endeavors here throughout our calendar of events.
National Black History Month brings us 2 lectures and a major event.
County Historian Stephanie Stevens will offer her expertise on the History of Slavery in Hunterdon County on February 1st. The following week on the morning of February 8th, Glenn Hooper, the Flemington Presbyterian Church Historian will give a more micro approach and explore slavery in the County Seat and also tell the tale of the last man hung in Hunterdon County. Cemetery expert and historian Leslie Leith will, weather and conditions permitting, take tours out to the slaves' graves at the church.
At the end of the month, on Saturday night, February 22nd, New York singer and actor Derrick McQueen will entertain us with the great Baritone Paul Robeson's repertoire. Held at the Flemington Presbyterian Church with its large seating capacity and wonderful acoustics, 350 attendees will get a treat to the ears and the eyes in the spectacularly beautiful and historic church.
February is also Lincoln's birthday. Join us on February 12th for a lecture by author and historian Dominick Mazzagetti on Lincoln's stop in Trenton on his way to his inauguration. Although not in Hunterdon County at that time, Trenton had been a very important part of Hunterdon County.
Finally, we also celebrate the life, times and architecture of the Vought Family of Clinton Township. February 27th would be the 300th birthday of Christopher Vought. We have a 3 part series held on consecutive Saturday afternoons, the first (February 8th) with historical architect Michael Marguiles on the architecture of the house, which, weather and conditions permitting, will include a tour of the grounds and the amazing house with features unique in the United States, the second with Vought expert Don Sherblom (February 15th) on John Vought's life, and the third (February 22nd) with historian Chip Riddle on the interesting loyalists and patriots of the times -- come to one or come to all!
All Tricentennial events require reservations that may be made on line via our website's links or by coming to the Flemington Choir School, 3 Chorister Place in Flemington on any Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets subject to availability on a first come, first served basis, but limited tickets are guaranteed available at the Choir School on the first Saturday after tickets go live on the internet. For questions or for further information regarding ticket availability email the 300th at 300info@co.hunterdon.nj.us or call 908-788-2030.
Other events on the February calendar include a recital of music celebrating the 100 year old Austin Pipe Organ at the Flemington Presbyterian Church. This event appears on our calendar in partnership with the Church and does not require reservations.
There are also two municipal events, Tewksbury Township Historical Society's Open House and East Amwell Township Historical Society's production of a Dramatic Dialogue between Silvia Dubois and Doctor Larison. Watch our website for further information for this event.
